IT’S two years until the Olympics, and there are fresh worries about the Games’s much-vaunted legacy of a fitter, sportier nation. Sports minister Hugh Robertson yesterday denied that massive cuts at his department meant damage to the legacy, instead promising a new drive by, er, merging the Sport England and UK Sport quangos. Meanwhile, this paper reported that few grants have yet been made from the Mayor’s Pounds 15.5 million sports legacy fund, more than a year after it was set up.
So look, can we just get over this sports legacy twaddle? Personally I think the Olympics are a colossal waste of money, but now that we’ve committed to spending Pounds 9.3 billion on them and have built half the stadia, can we just get on with what the Games are actually about: the world’s greatest sporting festival? Despite years of official exhortation, our participation in sport has been more or less static over the past decade. Three weeks of Olympic sports that few people normally watch, let alone play, aren’t going to make much difference to that

Ski Sunday (BBC2, 5.05pm) Graham Bell and Ed Leigh present coverage from the men’s downhill in Kitzbuehel, Austria on the infamous Hahnenkamm mountain. Swiss sensation Didier Defago was victorious last year on the Streif, so the Austrian contingent, led by 2006 winner Michael Walchhofer, have an added incentive to strike back this time. Meanwhile, Ed samples life on the World Cup tour with British snowboarder Zoe Gillings, as she gears up for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver at the end of the season.
Dancing on Ice (ITV1, 6.25pm) After the departure of Bobby Davro, last week, the remaining 12 contestants take to the ice together for the first time, having undertaken their toughest training yet from Olympic legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean. The skating so far has been top notch, with some impressive first performances from soap stars, Daniella Westbrook, Hayley Tamaddon and Danny Young. Even the oldest contestant Dr Hilary, cuts an impressive figure in his lycra and sequins, and his ice skating skills aren’t bad either.
Lark Rise to Candleford (BBC1, 8pm) Alf has much to be happy about, he’s finally paid ‘a man’s wage’ and it means that he can move his family back into the family cottage

And trying to beat competitors on price alone is a cut-throat business, very risky and not recommended. It attracts bargain hunters ready to defect to competitors for a better deal.
Using a value-pricing strategy is a better proposition because it attracts loyal customers. Why do customers buy designer-labelled clothes and luxury cars? Why are those items more expensive when they don’t cost so much more to make? The answer lies in the perceived value. Value is not an inherent attribute of the product but it commands a higher price.
Customers do not buy features and benefits, they buy VALUE.
Value is subjective. Value is a benefit but a benefit is not necessarily of value to all customers. For example, a vendor offers free installation and free updates for his software.

One thing that was impressed upon me is that if you are rescuing a drowning man then they have to be calm. If they are flailing around and panicking then attempting a rescue will not only endanger them, but you too.
It occurred to me recently that it?s not just drowning people who flail around. When you are dealing with major issues in your life you have a tendency to flail around wildly too.
Trouble is, as you are doing this, you are slapping away the hands that are trying to help you.
When you are in the midst of a crises, of any sort, take deep breaths from your stomach and stop. Stop worrying, stop panicking, stop trying to work out a solution and just be for a while.
From this vantage point in the eye of the storm, you will be able see the helping hands around you. You?ll be able to see the people who want to help and are trying to help who you?ve been pushing away.

Private practice marketing is tough enough without being encouraged to give away your services.
Yet somehow it has leaked into the “popular wisdom” of the coaching world that the way to get new clients is to offer a free complimentary consultation.
I do not know where or how this got started, and I really don’t care. What I do care about is that the people that I mentor and coach do not offer one!
Here’s why:
The idea behind the free complimentary session is that if someone gets a little bit of your services they are going to want more. While it does make a certain amount of sense, it does not work in the real world.
The reason this popular idea does not work is it communicates two things:
1.
You communicate that you are willing to give away your services for free.

Selling online usually means less overheads and so retailers
are able to pass the savings on to the customer. You will
also have far more legal protection if things go wrong
buying this way and also the chance to return any unsuitable
goods for whatever reason.
If you don?t mind buying secondhand then there are even
greater bargains to be found. As well as the above options
plenty of bargains can be found at car boot sales. Remember
to check out any equipment or toys for broken parts or sharp
edges and try and ensure the instructions are there. Also
safety recommendations may have changed since the seller
purchased the item and so it?s best to stick to items that
have been bought recently and not stored in an attic for
many years. Avoid used car seats as you can never tell if
these have been involved in an accident or dropped and it?s
also best to avoid electrical items too for safety reasons.

Deal keeps fugitive McGinnis’ widow out of jail
0 Comments | Tribune – Review / Pittsburgh Tribune – Review, Jul 27, 2010 | by Paul Peirce
The widow of a notorious Westmoreland County fugitive, who committed suicide shortly after his arrest for alleged insurance fraud, will apparently spend no time in jail under the terms of a deal reached Monday.
Denise P. McGinnis, 39, of 207 Johnson St., Fairfield, had been charged in the case with her husband, David, 44.
Her attorney, James Ecker of Pittsburgh, said his client will enter the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program and will not admit guilt but may have her charges expunged upon successful completion of a probationary period.
Two other alleged conspirators, David McGinnis’ brother, Kenneth C. McGinnis, 36, of Bolivar, and his sister, Wendy McGinnis, 42, have charges pending.
Records indicate David and Denise McGinnis collected $25,000 after he reported his red “monster show truck” stolen from the Galleria Mall near Johnstown on May 2, 2008.
Police said the truck was not stolen, but was stashed in Wendy McGinnis’ Homer City garage.
Kenneth McGinnis waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges stemming from the case, and Ecker said a hearing for Wendy McGinnis will be scheduled.
“This whole thing has been a tragedy for the McGinnis family. As the (police) reports indicate, the whole thing was really David’s doing, I believe both ladies involved here, Denise and Wendy, are totally innocent in this
