Watch this award winning FRONTLINE special report entitled “Secret History of the Credit Card” and you might think twice before using your credit card next time. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/credit/view/

Even if you make your credit card payments on time, the credit card bank can raise your interest rate automatically if you’re late on payments elsewhere — such as on another credit card or on a phone, car, or house payment — or simply because the bank feels you have taken on too much debt. This practice is called the “universal default” clause and increasingly is becoming a standard clause in credit card agreements.

FRONTLINE? and The New York Times join forces to investigate an industry few Americans fully understand. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/credit/eight/
In this one-hour report, correspondent Lowell Bergman uncovers the techniques used by the industry to earn record profits and get consumers to take on more debt.

“The almost magical convenience of plastic money is critical to our famously compulsive consumer economy,” Bergman says.
spanish mortgages

Phishing scams usually involve email
messages requesting the verification of personal information
from a familiar business. Readers are provided a link that
sends them to what appears to be the site of the company in
question. The reader is then asked to verify their account
information by providing their name, address, social
security number, account number, etc.

In truth, the site is an illegal copy of the business in
question and the reader?s information is collected for later
fraudulent use including identity theft. Consumers are
estimated to lose hundreds of millions of dollars a year to
phishing scams. Undoubtedly, you have received more than a
few of these emails.

Phishing emails are most likely to use the sites of banks,
credit card companies, and large retailers. Online companies
such as Ebay, PayPal and Earthlink have had similar
problems. One particularly aggressive group even scammed the
site of the IRS.

In April 2004, the IRS warned consumers that scam artists
were sending emails purportedly from the IRS.
chicago dui attorneys

Next I wanted to have a look at the increased power claim, and how that is actually accomplished.

Once the resonant frequencies of the fuel chips impacts the fuel, it increases the combustion strength in the cylinder head which in turn increases the pressure on the pistons resulting in increased engine power, especially in the lower RPM range.

This makes sense if you know how an engine works.
peugeot 207 lease

The whole concept of management is based on this management of the will of others.

Even more important is your self management. In life we are to select what we desire and discard what doesn?t suits us. Discipline is doing just that; making sure that you keep focused and concentrated. You might want to deviate from what said and promised to do earlier, but this will make you less credible.

Meditation is the means of gaining discipline. And if you realize that discipline is important in business, that you should give the example. This doesn?t mean that you need to drag your little carpet with you each day and meditate for five minutes in a lost moment. It does mean however, that you should know where you are talking about.

If you learn to meditate, you will experience the difficulty with it; you need practice, practice and practice?

But rather than giving only difficulties, meditation also gives you harmony and rest. Maybe only for one day, but probably enough to experience what really matters.
flextra ds

Vista includes other interface improvements as well, like the ability to see thumbnails of your open application windows when you put the cursor over Taskbar items or switch between programs using the Alt+Tab keys.

Vista’s Start menu has also been overhauled and simplified so things are easier to find, and it no longer uses the word “Start”. Searching your system has also been greatly improved in Vista. It’s now highly integrated into the operating system, and you can much more easily search by keyword. You can also save your search results for later reference.

Security :

Most people would agree that keeping a Windows system protected from online threats is a major headache, so Vista incorporates a number of improved security features designed to allay those concerns. Vista’s built-in firewall, for example, can monitor both outgoing and incoming network traffic, and Internet Explorer 7 adds a host of security improvements.Vista also includes a utility called Windows Defender to guard your system against spyware (though not viruses), and BitLocker, which can encrypt an entire hard disk to safeguard data when a system is lost, stolen or intentionally discarded.

The business versions of Windows Vista are scheduled for release in November, with the consumer versions following (relatively) close behind in January 2007.

Wells Fargo Names Tim Sloan Chief Administrative Officer

Business Wire, Sept 03, 2010

SAN FRANCISCO — Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE:WFC) announced today that Tim Sloan has been
named the companys chief administrative officer, a new position that
reports directly to Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer John
G. Stumpf. Effective immediately, the functions of Corporate
Communications, Corporate Social Responsibility, Enterprise Marketing,
Government Relations and Human Resources will report to Sloan as he
assumes leadership of the companys brand, reputation management,
stakeholder engagement and people development efforts.

An executive vice president of the company, Sloan has served most
recently as Wells Fargos head of Commercial Banking, Real Estate and
Specialized Financial Services. In that role, Sloan oversaw operations
within the Wholesale Banking group that provided credit and non-credit
products and services to more than 40,000 customers worldwide. His
groups included more than 25 distinct businesses with more than $200
billion in assets, operating out of more than 440 offices in 40 states
and in Asia, Canada and London. Those business lines will remain in
Wholesale Banking.

Tim has demonstrated the kind of business acumen and leadership that
inspires teams to higher levels of performance, said Stumpf. He is a
trustworthy and effective ambassador for the company, having cultivated
long-term relationships with many valued clients. He listens, as well as
leads, and he lives Wells Fargos customer-focused culture. These
qualities make him the right individual to lead a more holistic approach
to how we communicate our brand, engage with the communities we serve
and develop our people. His selection and this reorganization fully
reflect our view that Wells Fargos profile and opportunities,
especially in light of our historic merger with Wachovia, are poised to
grow.

With more than 25 years of experience in corporate, commercial and real
estate banking, Sloan assumed his current role in 2006. From 1997 until
2006, he was the group head of Specialized Financial Services. From 1994
to 1997, he was executive vice president and division manager of the
Real Estate Merchant Banking division within the Capital Markets group.
He joined Wells Fargo in 1987 after working three years at Continental
Bank in Chicago.

Sloan serves on the boards of Overseers of the Huntington Library and
the Jardin de la Infancia Charter school, and as an associate trustee of
the San Marino Schools Foundation. A graduate of the University of
Michigan, Sloan holds bachelors degrees in economics and history and an
M.B.A. in finance and accounting, and serves on the universitys Ross
School of Business Corporate Advisory Board. Sloan was born in
Cleveland, raised in suburban Detroit and currently lives in San Marino,
Calif. with his wife and three children.

Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE: WFC) is a nationwide, diversified,
community-based financial services company with $1.2 trillion in assets
marketing resources

THE City watchdog today set out the details of its reform of the controversial payment protection insurance market. The Financial Services Authority said its measures, including new handbook to ensure complaints are handled properly, will “protect consumers” from PPI products, which are designed to cover loan repayments in the event of unemployment or loss of income.

Budget hedge-bet; Health coverage moves anticipated

0 Comments | Telegram & Gazette (Worcester, MA), June 6, 2007

  Byline: Mark Melady

WORCESTER – The City Council adopted a no tax-hike, what-if, $545.4 million budget for fiscal 2008 last night that will be balanced only if the state seeks and kicks in at least $1.5 million in telecommunications tax loophole treasure and enough retirees move over to Medicare supplement plans for the city to save more than $3 million in health insurance costs.

The council cut $3.95 million from the budget and by adding the projected health insurance savings and telecom windfall avoided teacher and public safety layoffs and, at least for now, a $5.65 million property tax increase that City Manager Michael V. O’Brien had included in his budget.

The contingencies were too shaky for Mayor Konstantina B. Lukes, who cast the lone dissenting vote against the budget after losing motions to cut nearly $500,000 from the police and fire overtime accounts.

Several hundred teachers, city employees and retirees packed the council chamber, including the balcony and spilled into the third floor hallway where two television monitors were tuned to the meeting.

The council did not vote on shifting retirees to Medicare last night. Instead the Municipal Operations Committee will hold a hearing next Tuesday in the council chambers.

Committee Chairman District 2 Councilor Philip P. Palmieri promised a thorough review of the proposal that would affect between 360 and 450 retired city employees currently enrolled in private insurance plans, according to Kathleen G. Johnson, the city’s acting director of human services.

State law allows municipalities to require all Medicare eligible retirees – those 65 and older – to enroll in a Medicare health insurance plan. By moving to Medicare retirees would have to pay a $94 monthly premium. The penalty assessed by Uncle Sam for joining Medicare after the age of 65 would be paid by the city.

District 5 Councilor Frederick C. Rushton expressed concern for retirees living on pensions that barely exceed federal poverty levels. Any increase in health insurance costs could throw them into a budget crisis, he said, and asked Ms. Johnson to report back to the council on the financial status of those who would be eligible for the switch to Medicare.

Also included in the proposal, retirees and non-union employee contributions to their health insurance costs would rise from 20 to 25 percent. Frank P. Raffa, president of Local 1009 of the International Association of Fire Fighters, accused the council of “funding the deficit on the backs of retirees,” a line that drew loud applause from the audience.

Later Mr. Raffa said in an interview he hoped the budget would pass minus the retiree health insurance restructuring.

“No layoffs,” he said of the city manager’s budget. “If we had 20 layoffs we’d cease to exist.”

District 3 Councilor Paul P. Clancy Jr. opened the budget debate with motions that eventually were adopted, calling for a $2 million cut in the School Committee’s health insurance account and a $1.2 million slice from the city manager’s contingency fund. Both would be replenished with savings from the Medicare switch. He called it health care reform.

“I don’t want to layoff anymore teachers,” Mr. Clancy said. “I don’t want to layoff anymore firefighters. I don’t want to layoff anymore police officers. I don’t want the Grafton Street fire station closed.”

Mr. Clancy also authored a resolution, adopted by the council, urging the local legislative delegation to step up efforts to close the telecommunications tax loophole that could mean as much as $80 million in property taxes annually for municipalities.

Mr. Rushton said Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Murray has estimated the city’s annual take could be as much as $2 million. “We’re banking on the loophole being close,” he said.

Several councilors took the pledge not to raise property taxes.

The council later cut $416,000 from the DCU account and $63,000 from the Union Station account
medicare supplement insurance
